Applicability of the University General Rules for Academic Courses 8.6.2.1 The rules in 1.1 and 1.2 of the University General Rules for Academic Courses in this handbook apply to the course for the degree of Master of Laboratory Medicine (by Coursework) except as set out in the rules which follow. Applicability of the Faculty General Provisions for Master's Degrees 8.6.2.2 The Faculty General Provisions for Master's Degrees in 8.6.1 apply to the Master of Laboratory Medicine (by Coursework). Admission 8.6.2.3 Subject to University General Rule 1.1.1.2(5), the admission requirements are— (a) the degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in Biochemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology or Microbiology from this University, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty; or (b) a bachelor's degree in Science or Medicine from this University and a level of knowledge of relevant biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology or microbiology satisfactory to the Faculty, or equivalent as recognised by the Faculty. Course Structure 8.6.2.4 A student must complete one of the following programmes— (a) Clinical Immunology/Clinical Microbiology; or (b) Clinical Biochemistry/Toxicology. Clinical Immunology/Clinical Microbiology Programme 8.6.2.5 The Clinical Immunology/Clinical Microbiology programme consists of units to a total value of 96 points comprising— (a) all units in Table 8.6.2a [Master of Laboratory Medicine (Clinical Immunology/Clinical Microbiology) Core Units]—84 points and (b) one unit from Table 8.6.2b [Master of Laboratory Medicine (Clinical Immunology/Clinical Microbiology) Options]—12 points. Clinical Biochemistry/Toxicology Programme 8.6.2.6 The Clinical Biochemistry/Toxicology programme consists of all units in Table 8.6.2c [Master of Laboratory Medicine (Clinical Biochemistry/Toxicology) Core Units]—96 points. Mode of Study 8.6.2.7 Students are required to enrol on a full-time basis. Time Limit 8.6.2.8 The time limit is two calendar years from the date of first enrolment.
